Overall Objectives of Position
The Child Care Worker is responsible for providing leadership and supervision for assigned children after-school and throughout the summer. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of this position. The Child Care Worker is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs. The Child Care Worker is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.
Primary Responsibilities of the Child Care Worker
- Ensures the safety and well-being of 2, 3, and 4-year-old students.
- Meets the basic needs of children to include assisting with toileting and changing diapers as needed.
- Implements approved behavior management strategies to ensure orderly environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
- Supervises students in both indoor and outdoor settings and during activities such as games, arts & crafts, etc.
- Builds good relationships with the students, parents, and co-workers.
- Assists staff in carrying out daily activities and assists in maintaining of accurate daily records of meals, attendance, diaper changes, accidents, and behavioral issues.
- Assists staff in the preparation of weekly schedules and plan of activities.
- Inspects classroom and playground/outdoor area for any safety concerns and reports them to the ELC Manager.
- Ensures that students are following all policies.
- Must fully inform the ELC Manager and/or applicable staff of any possible problems relating to the program and/or students.
- Performs general cleaning and sanitizing of classroom to reduce exposure to airborne pathogens.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have six (6) months of full-time employment experience working with young children.
- Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
- Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Must be willing to work with children who are not yet toilet trained, including cleaning after them, changing diapers and clothing as needed.
- Must relate well to and enjoy working with very young children.
- Absolute confidentiality.
- Must be mature and possess character that earns the confidence of the participants, parents, and community, and minimizes public criticism or complaints.
- Must be reliable and trustworthy
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and motivated and must be able to work in a team environment under general supervision.
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, and twist for an extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
- Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
- Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
- Ability to adequately and successfully perform all duties and responsibilities of this position.
