Primary Objectives
The Utilities Operator I is a key line-level position responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of all utility systems owned or operated by the Utilities Authority, and its subsidiaries, to ensure they remain in compliance with the regulations that apply to those systems. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in the development/implementation applicable to daily, weekly, and monthly operation and maintenance programs.
  • Assists with water and sewer line installations, repairs, pump repairs, and similar repairs of the water and sewer systems.
  • Performs routine duties related to asset management, preventative maintenance, and critical asset programs.
  • Performs daily inspections, servicing, and tracking of lift stations, appurtenances, vehicles, and equipment to ensure the safe and economical operation of all utility facilities/equipment.
  • Responds to service calls and emergency work requests as needed.
  • Performs all work ensuring compliance with Utilities Authority ordinances and rules and regulations.
  • Follows established procedures for purchasing equipment, tools, and supplies needed to carry out operation and maintenance programs and upkeep of equipment.
  • Assists with status reports for the Utilities Authority, Tribal Council, and/or other designated entities of the work performed to ensure economical and efficient use of resources as needed.
  • Keeps vehicles and light and heavy equipment clean and in proper working condition.
  • Reports and schedules maintenance with appropriate personnel to reduce downtime.
  • Operates power driven machinery to excavate or move dirt, rocks, sand, and other material as needed to complete utility projects.
  • Conducts monthly meter readings and water connections and disconnections.
  • Performs Maintenance of treatment facilities, utility vehicles, and utility equipment.
  • Responsible for implementing the flushing plan and keeping necessary records.
  • Responsible for recording residual testing for records and compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess a Grade II State of Alabama Water Operator Certification or obtain within three (3) years of employment.
  • Must possess a Grade II State of Alabama Wastewater Operator Certification or obtain within four (4) years of employment
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
Core Competencies Required
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, Excel, etc.
  • Must be proficient and efficient in the operation of tools, light and heavy equipment and machinery, i.e. tractors with implements, backhoe, dump truck, bulldozer, etc., to perform assigned duties as required.
  • Must be able to perform routine and complex plumbing jobs.
  • Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
  • Takes accountability for performance and results.
  • Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures.

  • The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
