About the Role:
The Tribal Youth Conservation Corps Intern provides Tribal youth with hands-on experience in natural resource management, including invasive species control, water quality monitoring, and land management projects that support the Poarch Creek community. Interns also assist with departmental goals and perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with invasive plant identification, removal, surveys, and community outreach.
  • Participate in forestry and natural resource training, workshops, and field projects.
  • Support conservation efforts through trail maintenance, tree pruning, native plant restoration, vegetation management, and prescribed burn activities.
  • Assist with native plant propagation and habitat restoration on Tribal lands.
  • Provide support to Tribal departments on natural resource and conservation projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to perform work in an outdoor environment that ranges from cold, wet, and hot climates. Work may range from physical exertion over muddy, slippery, and rough surfaces
  • Must be 14 to 18 years of age.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist for any extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
Essential Competencies:
  • Must be a currently enrolled high school student.
  • Experience working with natural resources preferred.
  • Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
  • Takes accountability for performance and results.
  • Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures.
