Primary Objectives
The Tribal Youth Conservation Corps Intern is a key line-level position responsible for an opportunity for Tribal youth to gain experience in a broad array of natural resource job areas with tasks related to invasive species, water monitoring, and land management projects that uniquely affect the Poarch Creek community. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Engages in invasive plant control projects by searching for, locating, marking, and clearing invasive plants; assist with invasive plant surveys and outreach.
  • Participates in program workshops and trainings on specialized topics of forestry and natural resources.
  • Participates in forestry and natural resource projects on Tribal lands working with various departments.
  • Provides labor for an assortment of tribal natural resource projects that may involve; trail creation, clearing and maintenance; tree pruning, transplanting seedlings and plants; spreading chips; cutting vegetation on land and water; assistance with control burning keeping areas clean of debris and invasive plants; propagation and transplanting of native plants.
  • Works to create Native plant re-establishment.
  • Provides labor support for various Tribal Departments through a variety of conservation related tasks supporting natural resources projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to perform work in an outdoor environment that ranges from cold, wet, and hot climates. Work may range from physical exertion over muddy, slippery, and rough surfaces.
  • Must be 14 to 18 years of age.
  • Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist for any extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
Core Competencies Required
  • Must be a currently enrolled high school student.
  • Experience working with natural resources preferred.
  • Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
  • Takes accountability for performance and results.
  • Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
  • The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
